We love our players!

Marise Watson

We have been open for nearly 2 years now and what a ride it's been!

We launched our third game 'The Marlowe Hotel' last November, legendary journalist Barry Divola wrote an amazing feature about us, Rove McManus returned to play The Marlowe Hotel, and I dressed up as a film noir, femme fetale for SMH's Good Weekend magazine!

Speaking of dressing up, here's a little secret about us - we absolutely LOVE IT when players dress in costume! Sometimes it's a hat or a coat, other times it's full body, black and white make up. Below are just a handful of the teams that have delighted us with their outfits over the past 2 years.

Gorgeous work, guys and gals!

And thanks to everyone that has played our games and supported us since we opened our crazy little business! You are awesome! :)

Best Month Ever!

Marise Watson

We are nearly four weeks into our business being open, and it's been amazing!

In that short time, we've had hundreds of people come through: there have been families, colleagues, birthday parties, Father's Day surprises, and even a tenth wedding anniversary!

We've also had some lovely media support - Time Out Sydney wrote us a review that made us blush, the Daily Telegraph made us pull silly faces (we just spent most of the time giggling), and Rove McManus and Sam Frost visited and filmed a funny segment for their show! Seriously, watch it - it's hilarious!

We're so thankful to all the people who've played our game and supported us! Here's to another fabulous month!

Let the building begin!

We have some exciting news!

We finally received DA approval from the council (WOO!), so we can start building our rooms (WOO again!).

The DA also means that we can now officially announce, hey, we're totes happening!! As such, we just sent the website and Facebook page live. Please join our newsletter and follow us to receive our latest news, offers and the upcoming launch date.

Now, if you'll please excuse us, we have some celebratory champagne to attend to!

We have a home!

Marise Watson

Well it took months of searching for a perfect business location, but we can now confirm our new address:

640 King St in Sydney's Newtown!

We're only about 10 mins walk from Newtown's Train Station (and a mere 2 mins from St Peters Station). So you can do a room with us, then mosey off to enjoy the suburb's awesome bars, restaurants, shopping and iconic nightlife.

We couldn't be happier! In fact, I just did a little happy dance. Yes, I did.

We can't wait to show you more as we build our rooms and get closer to the launch date!

Start Spreading The News!

Over the past few months, we at The Cipher Room have been continuing to design rooms, buy vintage props and create some pretty unique and fun puzzles.

In September, I visited Melbourne and New York to get an idea of what the industries are doing there. Aside from doing escape rooms galore (tough gig, I know), I managed to stumble across a specialised spy gadget shop in the West Village of NYC. I left with lots of cool gadgets and a much lighter purse.

We're still trying to find the best premises for our business. Hopefully we have news on that front soon. So stay tuned!

In the meantime, please enjoy this photo of David, our bespoke puzzle creator, hard at work despite his injured thumb. That's dedication, kids.

Welcome to the Cipher Room Blog!

We at the The Cipher Room are busy, busy, busy! There's so much to organise before we're ready to open one of the first escape games in Sydney's Inner West.

We want to bring a unique, vintage vibe to the world of escape games. Our rooms will feature bespoke puzzles and be heavy with antiques from the local area.

One of our missions is to source locally (wherever possible) so Newtown's specialist antique shops, second-hand book stores and local vendors are getting to know us very well.

We've already bought so many beautiful vintage knick-knacks from between 1920-1950 and can't wait to show you how we've incorporated them into our games. We're getting a bit excited!

Anyway, back to work. We'll post another update soon.
